This February, everywhere it was just a Tuesday

Volunteer hours: 2 Spring total: 4 With Mardi Gras being canceled due to Covid protection and protocol New Orleans didn’t feel like home for the first time in years. New Orleans felt really different, it almost felt somber and didn’t seem like it was February. A lot of residents in New Orleans took that opportunity to decorate their homes to honor the spirit and tradition of Mardi Gras which was really beautiful. Students were given the week off for Spring break, which was really nice. It allowed everyone to take a break and even catch up on rest. A lot of students are not only studying Pharmacology modules, but we’re also preparing for the MCAT exam as well. Having the week break allowed me the opportunity to continue my community service efforts. I continued my efforts this month with Crescent City Famers. My goal is to do more with more organizations; however, I have to follow the Covid guidelines, I wish I could do more and be more involved. This month the service was moved to a different location. The new location is City Park which allows more visitors and space for the local farmers. Each time that I go the gratitude of each farmer and leader there is refreshing. They truly appreciate the help.

This month our studies consisted of learning a lot about neurology as well as everything related to mental health and disorders. It was very interesting however disheartening to learn how prevalent mental disorders are throughout our communities. What I found to be one of the most interesting facts is how misdiagnosed schizophrenia and autism is with children. It can leave the child and parents feeling helpless and so frustrated. Each day I look  forward to the future in hopes that I can be a change for so many others in my community.
